North Wales Crusaders remain unbeaten after Round 7’s action in Betfred League One!
The Crusaders are the only side in the third tier to still have a 100% winning record and continued this on Sunday with a convincing win over Whitehaven.
After their opening four matches being on the road, North Wales were back on home soil at Colwyn Bay – and were able to give their home fans plenty to cheer about.
Olly Davies opened the scoring for the hosts after ten minutes, after finding a gap in Haven’s defence. Moments later, Patrick Ah Van doubled the Crusaders’ lead as he beat numerous Whitehaven defenders to the line.
Sam Wilde and Lloyd Roby also got in on the action, extending their side’s lead to 26-0 at half-time.
Wilde completed his brace after the break, with Cole Oakley and Ollie Brookes also adding their names to the scoresheet.
Haven finally found joy in attack and scored consolations through Ellis Nixon and Cameron Brown, but it's the Crusaders who find themselves leading the way and are one point clear at the top.
Goole Vikings secured back-to-back wins in League One as they defeated a very spirited Newcastle Thunder at Blaydon RFC.
It was a competitive tussle in the opening half, with Thunder ensuring it was never one-way traffic as they produced their best performance of the season on their home patch.
Viking Tom Halliday got the first points on the board for Goole after taking in Reece Dean’s trademark cut-out pass to the right wing.
But Thunder would soon level the scores as Leo Bradley touched down for the hosts. Jeylan Hodgson’s try, however, would edge Goole in front at half-time.
Scott Taylor's Vikings then proved too strong in the second half, with hometown hero Halliday achieving a hat-trick on Sunday, and further tries coming from Josh Guzdek and Tyler Craig.
Thunder did score on two more occasions, but it was the visitors who registered the two points.
Meanwhile, there were try fests in different parts of the country - with Rochdale and Workington scoring 32 points a piece against Dewsbury and Swinton respectively.
